It all began with a purpose - Donation update June.

It has been a successful month and a half since we began this campaign. Thank you to all who donated. Please pass on the links and spread the word! We also want to thank Ms. D. Lewis, from limitls-agency.com, for volunteering her time to build the website. Being a first-class digital marketer, she continues to help us on spreading the word and to expand our organization.

Since April 17, 2022 we have raised $5780 from many parts of the US and several countries (Austria, Holland, Germany, United Kingdom, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Ireland) around the world. We have distributed $2332.56 to Friends of Lady Ridgeway Childrens’ Hospital, and $2332.56 to the Save-A-Baby organization to buy medicine and surgical supplies. We decided to work directly with these two organizations because both organizations have worked in Sri Lanka prior to the current crisis, and have built-in infrastructure necessary for direct impact of the donations.

It takes a bit of time to register the organization as a 501c3 nonprofit in the US, but we have assembled the Board of Directors – a requirement for registration and forming the bylaws. The attorneys (Kaufman & Canoles, P.C. Norfolk, VA, USA) are filing the paperwork this week.

We want the maximum number of dollars to go towards the medicines and surgical supplies. Therefore, the founders of Meds For Kids, my wife Dr. Bjorg Larson and myself, Dr. Sanjee Abeytunge bear the cost of operations.

The costs are as follows:

Website host (Squarespace): $36/ month

Registration (501c3 nonprofit): Approx. $3000 (one-time)

Registration (501c3 nonprofit) renewal: Approximately $100/ annualy

Email host (Google Workspace): $72/ annualy

Wire transfer cost (C&F Bank): $50 per every $1000

We should note that Stripe, the financial service that handles all the credit card payments, and Venmo (business), the service that handles peer-to-peer business transactions, charge approximately 3% of the donations.

Thank you for joining our journey to help the children in Sri Lanka. We will keep updating this blog section with the latest news.
